That some in the church at Corinth (in addition to the man guilty of incest) definitely had incurred spiritual death is evident, not only from Paul's sorrowful words in II Cor. 12:21, but also from his expression of gratification at the news through Titus of how they had profited by his stern rebuke and had been led to repent-unto salvation:

For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not reget it, though I did [for a while] regret it. For I see that that letter grieved you, though but for a while. Now I rejoice, not because you were made sorrowful, but because you were made sorrowful toward God, so that in no way should you suffer injury by us. For the sorrow toward God works repentance unto salvation [and is] without regret; but the sorrow of the world works death. For behold this very thing-your being made sorrowful toward God-what earnest care it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what avengingl In every way you have proved yourselves to be pure in this matter (II Cor. 7:8-11).
